something strange is going on

I was in the kitchen last night. After dinner. And I was... making gazpacho?! Now while I love all things tomato and the smell of the fresh, juicy, ripe reds wafting through the apartment was a pay-off in itself, I am not the kind of girl who spends her evenings preparing delicious cold Spanish soups! In fact, I'm not even the kind of girl who owns a blender with which to prepare said delicacy. Until of course, the wedding registry. So now I own a blender (thanks Sis!) and now I'm apparently in the kitchen, at night, blending.

But that's not all. A few nights ago I impulsively whipped up some grilled lamb chops with roast vegetables and a green avo salad. This was in the same week that my darling husband got treated to roast chicken and veg on couscous. Made. By. Me.

I don't understand it. I honestly didn't go on any cooking course, I don't have a new cook book, I have never cooked these dishes before and I didn't know that I even knew how...

The only possible explanation therefore, is that when one gets married, a wealth of household information and instruction is automatically imbedded in the bride. A kind of culinary collective consciousness opens up to her as she is welcomed into the fold.

Either that, or my Beautiful Boy is just such an incredibly kind and generous, loving, understanding and supportive Beautiful Husband, he inspires me to greatness. Yeah, I think that's it.

So you are becoming a Domestic goddess - a Good man can do that to a woman :)

Nice to have you back! Happy NY!
I love cooking, especially cooking for my man. And even if I think I've created a disaster, he always raves about how delicious it is and how clever I am and how lucky he is, awwwwww.
My friend used to say, "the way to a mans heart is through his stomach".

It must be to do with BB. Because I'm just as married as you, and I certainly haven't become ANYTHING in the kitchen, except perhaps lazier :-) If that's possible. I cook but I don't care...I just love eating, but not cooking.

hahaha I love this! I have always loved to cook, but doing so is so much more fun now that M and I live together. I think all the shiny new registry gifts can't be hurting your talents either. I'm looking forward to all kinds of post-wedding culinary fun.

You're so hilarious!

I cannot wait to get our gifts from the registry, as I'm convinced it will make me a better cook as well! Bravo on the lamb etc. Those aren't easy things to make!

I loved that you just casually whipped up some grilled lamb chops. Can you come cook for me one weekend?

Only true love can be the reason for such wild and totally unprecendented behaviour :)

I even feel a cake coming on this weekend...

I much prefer the second explanation, it's the one I use for myself.
I've found I lurve to cook, I bypassed the clothes and shoes in a department store this past weekend to by a food processor. Yes, a kitchen appliance made my week. It sits proudly next to my stand mixer and the 500 cupcakes book is calling my name. Diet be damned this weekend!

I am not even married or engaged and I have the same thing going on, to an extent. I already love cooking though but cooking for someone I adore is one of my favorite things to do.

There is just something wonderous about preparing food & sharing it with someone you care about.

i have suddenly turned into a chef of sorts as well! i really can't explain it, but the girl that has lived off of soup and frozen crap all throughout college is sudden making chicken tacos and sun-dried tomato pizza and lasagna every night! i've never done any of this before, but i magically knew how. strange...

Maybe the culinary goddess in you was cultivated when you were young and watched mum cooking in the kitchen? Somehow by osmosis or something, that wealthe of knowledge has been stored in your mind subconsciously?

I can't cook for nuts and am not interested. But when I got married and became a stay home wife, I had to cook and realised that I knew names of vegs, ways to chop, how to match what with what.. knowledge that my bachelor husband who had to fend for himself didn't know. I gathered it was from watching my mum cook over the years.

Having said all that, I still can't cook without relying on a recipe. My fav source is Foodnetwork.com. So congrats to your newfound talent. Looking forward to hearing more about your life! :)

I also started to cook but that happened when I moved in. Something about settling in with the man does it to us, I think. But it's not so fun anymore.

Ha, but we have not tasted any of this! Time for an invite. (I must say I am impressed, because...)
